Carcassonne is known above all as a fortified medieval town : but this rocky outcrop has been occupied by man since the 6th century BC, first as a Gaul settlement, then a Roman town equipped with ramparts since the 3rd century AD.

The old town is still lived in today. 52 towers and 2 concentric walls make up a total of 3 kms of ramparts. Except for the Chateau, the visitor can freely visit most of the Cité: The Basilica St. Nazaire, the ramparts, the lists, the Narbonne Gate, the Aude Gate and see the life of the town inside the walls.
The restaurant « La Rapière » (or Rapier) is at the foot of the medieval walled town, combining the magic of a place full of history with the tastes of our regional cuisine. We propose traditional dishes, to enjoy alone or with the family, on holiday or during a meal break during a seminar, accompanied by the best wines of our region.

Since 2006 “La Rapière” also offers the possibility of staying in one of our bedrooms enabling you to prolong your stay and discover our region more fully.
